Can Vetmedin be dangerous if dose taken too high?

My miniatures Schnauzer has a heart murmur and ihas been on Vetmedin for a year now. Her vet passed so I had to go to a new vet and it was stated her dosage needs to be increased. She is 18lbs and gets 1.25mg pill in morn and 12 hrs later another 1.25mg. Her breathing behavior at rest/sleep ranges between 22-25. I am nervous to increase her Vetmedin. Can you provide an opinion on my situation. Thank you.

Jeri, thanks for your question.

The labeled and recommend dosing for VETMEDIN is 0.23mg/lb. If your pet is 18lbs, we multiple by 0.23 to get her TOTAL daily dose which is 4mg/day divided into two doses. So she can safely receive up to 2 mg in the morning and 2 mg in the evening. Since she is currently on 1.25 mg every 12 hours she is well within the recommended dosing.
