New year’s goals for your pets

When it comes to setting new year’s resolutions, why should humans have all the fun? The start of a new year is the perfect time to set goals for your pet, too. Whether you’re looking to get them more exercise or helping them become better behaved, here are some tips on how to make 2023 the best year yet for your furry friend.

Start with an activity goal

Exercise is just as important for pets as it is for their owners. Make 2023 the year you increase your pet’s daily activity level. If they already have regular walks or play time outside, try adding in an extra 10-minute session each day or using interactive toys that encourage movement and exploration. Let’s not forget about our cat friends! Cats are natural hunters, so find an activity to keep you kitties mentally stimulated. The best toy is a fishing pole-type apparatus with feathers, streamers, or other items attached with a string. Mimic the movements of a bird or small animal by moving the toy in short, jerky motions. Allow your cat to catch the “prey” every once in a while, so they don’t lose interest in the game.

Strive for good behavior

If your pet’s behavior needs some improvement, start small with simple commands like “sit” and “stay.” Always reward them for good behavior with a treat or extra attention – this will help to positively reinforce the desired actions. Training your dog doesn’t have to be a hassle, it should be fun! Look for ways to train your pet commands by using games to keep them engaged. If you want to take it a step further, we can’t forget the basics that every dog should know like comespeakdrop it, etc. These basic commands give your dog structure, helping overcoming behavioral issues.

Make time for mental stimulation

Pets need stimulation just as much as exercise. Try introducing some mentally engaging activities such as puzzle toys or brain games that help keep their minds active and engaged. According to Rover, “Interactive dog toys are designed to help keep your dog busy while you’re away, stave off boredom and provide opportunities to exercise—plus offer mental stimulation to engage a pup’s natural curiosity.” This can also be an opportunity to bond with your pet while they learn new skills.

Create a health care plan

Keeping track of your pet’s health is essential in making sure they stay fit and healthy throughout the year. Make sure to schedule regular visits to the vet and keep up with their vaccinations, as well as provide them with the proper nutrition and grooming they need.

Setting goals for your pet can be a great way to ensure they have the best year possible. With some extra love and attention, you can help make 2023 an amazing year for you and your furry companion!
