Haven’t been able to find an antihistimine that doesn’t knock him out…..Generic benedryl, generic zyrtec, generic loratidine…we are only giving 1/2 a tablet
in the evening…..takes forever for him to wake up in the morning……
His weight is apprx 50#s……

There’s no great research to support the use of medications like Benadryl for itchy dogs, if anything and to your point, it makes them sleepy but probably doesn’t stop the itch. Talk to your vet about products like Apoquel or Cytopoint instead!
