He has been completely vetted and is recovering nicely. We have several other indoor cats, non-fiv. Can they ever live in the same area. We keep them separated but we don’t want him isolated as he is very sweet. Are there any new treatments on the horizon. I investigated the vaccine by Fort Dodge and it has been discontinued.

FIV is a virus that is transmitted most commonly through deep, penetrating bite wounds which is why it is more common in feral tom cats and they fight each other. The good news is that cats with FIV can live fairly normal lives! I would first want to make sure that the positive result was confirmed by your veterinarian. Assuming its a true positive, ideally your cat should live in a single cat house hold, alternatively you could adopt another FIV kitty and they can be companions to one another! As for new treatments, there are none that I am aware of
